Pause, My Love
Welcome, my love!
I have long waited for you.
On this journey called life,
I have stayed long at this stop called love,
Waiting, patiently, earnestly.
Our first stop is what they call adulthood.
Take a look around at the other passengers in this soulful train.
Their eyes are heavy, adorned by sleep bags and depression,
Their heads hang numbly from their necks.
They stare straight ahead but they see nothing. They feel nothing.
But you, my love, shall have an easier journey.
Yes, on this travail called life,
You shall not be like the man in the seat before us,
Whose voice hasn’t ceased from singing mournful dirges.
He has seen death, but has refused to let death go.
No, my love,
You shall not be like the woman,
Whose tongue wags incessantly,
Talking, yapping, complaining and comparing.
Her eyes should have been sharper.
Her legs should have been longer.
She goes on and on entertaining all who wish to hear.
My love,
You shall not be like the kids who know not where they are headed,
The kids who envy and spite,
Who have refused to see happiness on their journey.
No.
My love,
You shall be you,
Taking hold of this journey,
Easing gently into the pilot’s seat,
Taking charge of your own life.
My darling,
You shall stop to smell the roses.
You shall pause to dance till your heart beats in rhythmic palpitating beats.
You shall watch yourself through the reflecting mirrors on this train,
And you shall smile so much that your cheeks will slightly hurt.
They will look at you and wonder,
“Isn’t she on this same journey with us?
Didn’t adulthood whip her ass over and over again?
How dare she laugh?
How dare she dance?”
They shall ask themselves these questions,
But they shall come to no resolve.
They shall find no solution.
Then, my love,
They shall come to you.
“What is your secret?”
They shall ask.
“How do you laugh and smile?
How can you dance and be happy
When you have absolutely no reason to do so?”
My love, you shall tell them,
“I found me.
I saw myself.
I found the girl within and I let her blossom.
I was the light at the end of the tunnel.
I just chose not to wait till the end of the tunnel.”
And then, my love,
You shall dance.
But this time, they shall dance with you.
